My Journey in Beer and Whisky – A Passion from 1999 to Today
I began my journey in the bar scene as a waiter at Bishops Arms in 1999. Peter “Pyrre” Lindkvist, the bar manager, told me I had to know about whisky if I wanted to work for him. I read, among other things, Per Elsberger’s book on whisky—something I highly recommend. Despite being naturally shy, Pyrre managed to convince me to start hosting whisky tastings, which became an education in itself and an important part of my personal development.

Bishops Arms was also excellent at sending me and the rest of the staff to producers. I had the opportunity to visit many distilleries, learn more about whisky production, and see how the process varied from one location to another.
From 1999 to 2006, I worked at Bishops Arms in both Örebro and Gothenburg, where I was involved in operations, purchasing, and hosting tastings. Bishops Västra Hamngatan in Gothenburg already had a staff around the year 2000 (including Fredrik Pihlqvist, among others) with a strong passion for beer, which meant an impressive selection for that time. That, combined with numerous brewery visits in Belgium with my friend (and beer importer) Andreas Fält, led me to discover my deep love for beer.
In 2006, my best friend Niklas Gustafsson and I received an offer to purchase The Rover in Gothenburg, which was already one of Sweden’s best beer bars at the time. With the help of Gary McLachlan, we managed to make the purchase a reality. The three of us ran The Rover until 2014, and during that time, we also opened Ölrepubliken. (The Rover is no longer in operation, but Ölrepubliken is still run by Gary and others. It’s definitely worth a visit!)
When we started our beer journey, almost none of my friends were particularly interested in beer. Around 2011, something changed in the Swedish beer scene, and suddenly I went from being an incomprehensible oddball to someone knowledgeable about something that was actually ”in.” Interest in beer grew rapidly at that time, and within just a few years, the number of breweries in Sweden increased from 50 to 500.
At Ölrepubliken, we hosted many tastings—mostly led by me, Andreas Görts, and Victor Dahlberg. Sometimes, we held three tastings in a single day. One day, Andreas came to us with a beer he had brewed at home. I thought it was just like the best beers you could get from the U.S. at that time. When I tasted it, it became clear to me that we needed to start our own production. American India Pale Ale was hard to find on the market back then.
In 2012, we launched All In Brewing. Our first commercial beers were collaborative brews, produced at Toccalmatto in Italy and Lervig in Norway, then imported to Sweden. We visited producers we admired and learned from their expertise to improve our own brewing.
In 2013, we organized a beer event where we invited our brewer friends to join us for a shared beer celebration. We called it All In Beer Fest. Over the years, that event has grown, becoming a well renowned beer festival, held every November.
In 2014, together with a group of friends (who worked with All In Brewing or Dugges Brewery), I opened a beer bar called Brewers Beer Bar, offering a large beer selection and sourdough pizza. Today, we have two Brewers in Gothenburg—one on Magasinsgatan and one on Tredje Långgatan—as well as a smaller pizzeria on Södra Allégatan, called Napoletana.
In 2024, my friends at Stigbergets Bryggeri asked me to host their tastings at Ringön in Gothenburg. Getting back into hosting beer tastings regularly was fun, and it inspired me to start BeerTasting.se, allowing me to focus more on this kind of work.
At a tasting, we can either create a custom lineup with beers from all over the world or focus on specific producers if that’s of greater interest. Today, I work as a tasting host for several breweries. It’s incredibly fun to work with friends and beer producers who truly deliver world-class beer. The breweries I currently collaborate with include:
- Stigbergets Bryggeri
- Beerbliotek
- All In Brewing
- Ten Hands
In 2025, with the help of Mia Marine (my love), I officially launched BeerTasting.se—and now you found your way here. Fun!
